ReefX: Call for volunteer divers

ReefX is a public citizen science programme to train recreational scuba divers in gathering reef survey data to support local reef research and conservation efforts. An initiative by non-profit conservation group Marine Stewards in collaboration with NParks.

The two-month programme will accept an intake of 25 experienced scuba divers, to allow for focused and personalised training of highly specialised research tasks. There will be 3 intakes running from July - December 2022.

Launch of Private Lives Exposé of Singapore's Coral Reefs!

The final book of the Private Lives Series has been launched! 

An Exposé of Singapore's Coral Reefs was first conceptualised 6 six ago, with Professor Chou Loke Ming at helm. Together with his team of young marine biologists (Dr. Huang Danwei, Dr. Zeehan Jaafar, Dr. Toh Tai Chong, Dr. Karenne Tun), and contributions from >40 other scientists, this book tells the past, present and future of coral reefs here.

You don't need to be a diver to help make these local dives possible. So more can experience and learn about Singapore's own wild reefs!

Registration open for September dives at Pulau Hantu

YES! You can dive Singapore waters. Join the volunteers of the Hantu Blog for their regular guided dives.

The Hantu Blog Dives are integral to the work of the Hantu Bloggers on Pulau Hantu. More than just an educational field trip, our dives are also our primary source of funding to develop and maintain public education work in schools and at national events. By joining our dives, you’ll not only be signing up for an insightful and eye-opening weekend, you’ll also be contributing to our efforts to safe guard Pulau Hantu and its marine life.

Their September dives are now open for registration.

10 Feb (Sat): AQUA TALKS presents "The Heroic Journey of Sea Turtles" by Rushan Abdul Rahman

Come for this FREE talk! Do you remember Crush, the 'surfer dude' sea turtle in Finding Nemo? Wonder why they were travelling on the currents?

Join us to hear and learn from Rushan about sea turtles' long-distance heroic journey from where they were eggs to their return to the sands where they were born. Come hear about the role Singapore plays in their story too!

Reef survey training by the Blue Water Volunteers: Jan-Mar 2018

Registration now open for reef survey training by the Blue Water Volunteers. They jointly organise the Coral Reef Monitoring Programme with NParks. This citizen science programme monitors coral reefs in Singapore's Southern Islands, particularly Pulau Hantu, Pulau Semakau, Pulau Jong, The Sisters Islands, Kusu Island and Raffles Lighthouse.

The Blue Water Volunteers will be conducting several sessions of "Reef survey training - benthic survey". More details and RSVP on the BWV facebook page.

NParks celebrates the start of International Year of the Reef 2018

NParks says on their IYOR page: "In collaboration with the Friends of Marine Park community and other partners, is launching a series of activities and programmes to celebrate the International Year of the Reef (IYOR) 2018. The activities and programmes held throughout the year in Singapore seek to raise awareness of the impact of human activity on the marine ecosystems, instil environmental stewardship and involve you and the community in local conservation efforts.

Under NParks’ Community in Nature initiative, you can participate in a range of surveys to help collect data on Singapore’s coastal and marine ecosystems. You may also be able to organise your own activities in line with IYOR 2018, with support from NParks.
